Pretty Please is the new musical comedy being produced by Chain Reaction Theatre Company. Written by Peter Tennant, writer and successful stand-up comic, the show is a scandalously irreverent romp through the excesses and absurdities of the beauty industry.
Pretty Please tells the tragi-comic tale of outrageous beauty salon owner ‘Fatima’ and her desperate attempts to eradicate ugliness from the world forever. She shares the salon with her faithful but obsessively neurotic assistant and her one true friend ‘The Virgin Mary’, the only confidant to her dreams of global domination and her rather distasteful past.
With only 5 days to go before the iconic ‘Cashton Upon Flimsy’ beauty show, a mysterious stranger arrives fresh from ‘The Royal College of Beauty’ to help Fatima win glory in the gold ribbon event – a painful but spectacular chemical peel-off.
But is this new protégé all she seems or could treachery be afoot?
Will loyal client Gay Simon ever be content with his extreme eye-brow tidy?
And what is Fatima’s dark dark secret which has inspired her hysterical thirst for a perfect lip-glossed world?
There is another player in this game and her face refuses to go away…
Pretty Please combines cutting humour with immensely catchy songs to explore the pastel-shaded but dangerously destructive world of ‘Reveal’ magazine, delighting in the banal whilst always realising the dark personal truths.
Along the way the audience join in ‘The Mung Bean Rumba’ with not one but two Dr Gillian McKeiths, delight in the sprightly number ‘You’ve got to fit your corpse into a size eight coffin’, and are treated to a genuine tear jerker with the ballad ‘Little Girl’.
The talented cast of three young women takes on each of the main roles with gusto as well as playing the numerous accompanying characters including infamous Slovakian tennis legend ‘Bettina Justlickmeova’.
Pretty Please premiered at the greenwich Playhouse in January 2007.
