On 1st August, under sunny skies (for once this summer!), Chain Reaction added a touch of sunshine to the London Borough of Waltham Forest Gender Equality Duty launch with their unique new show âIf You Wanna Be My Equalâ, to high praise and great feedback from senior management.  The Gender Equality Duty is a legal obligation which came into force in April 2007. It requires public authorities to promote gender equality and eliminate sex discrimination.  In seeking a new and entertaining way to introduce and champion this new legislation, the London Borough of Waltham Forest commissioned educational theatre veterans the Chain Reaction Theatre Company to write and perform a brand new show to ensure that the ground-breaking Gender Equality Duty was launched to their staff in a suitably unique and memorable way.  The new show features a fun range of pop culture references including songs from the Spice Girls and Grease, and scenes based on popular TV shows including âDeal Or No Dealâ and âEastEndersâ which entertained, and engaged the audience whilst illustrating the problems of gender inequality. Â
âWhat Chain Reaction did in ten minutes is more than I could have done in a whole hourâs presentation. In terms of getting the message of gender equality across and engaging the audience, it was perfect!â
Jane Brown, Diversity Manager,
âOnce again, Chain Reaction have turned a local government issue into something that is fun, engaging and accessible for all audiencesâ
Robin Tuddenham, Assistant Chief Executive,

Romfords new Queen’s Hospital welcomed bright new art on Wednesday 18th July, as colourful canvases created by local youths in workshops with Chain Reaction Theatre Company were formally presented to the children’s ward.
Chain Reaction presented canvases to the Tropical Lagoon Children’s Ward which were created during February half term, when the locally-based educational theatre champions delivered a fantastic range of art and drama workshops to over forty 6-16 year olds in the Village Ward area of the borough.
Wednesday 23rd May was National Tackling Drugs Day. The Barking and Dagenham Drug and Alcohol Action Team had an event at Barking Town Hall to launch their new treatment system for adults and young people across the borough. Chain Reaction were asked to perform ‘Know Your Mind’ at the event which has recently enjoyed a successful tour of schools in the borough as part of their drugs education. 100 delegates crammed into a small hall on a very hot day to watch us do our thing and it was great fun. The piece is aimed at 9-11 year olds but the adult audience proved to be game from start to finish and it was great to see the Mayor (who was sat in the front row) chuckle along to our antics. The day was also guest to Vernon Coaker MP, Under Secretary of State for Policing, Security & Community Safety…pheww!
THANK YOU!! Can’t tell you guys enough how well your performance went down with all those who watched it on Wednesday, feedback was so positive. As always you guys delivered, not that I ever doubted!!â Saleena Sreed-Haran, Young Persons Substance Misuse Commisioner, Barking and Dagenham DAAT
